What country could better accomodate a vegan diet?

Cait asked:

I have the option to go to either Sweden or France as an exchange student. My only minor setback is my vegan diet. Which country (or a host family) could better suit my diet. Depending on grocery stores and things of that nature.

Definitely Sweden. Sweden is very open to vegetarianism/veganism but in France I have heard people say they have chicken and fish on the vegetarian menus and they have cheese, butter, or other dairy in practically every dish.

Take a vegan passport with you so you can clear up any confusion about what you can eat. Vegan passport:

Well I guess both Sweden and France are used to vegetarians nowdays. I do not think that you should have grand problems being a vegetarian iny of these countries, unless you go to a small french village where they eat bacon on bacon.
So i think that food should not be a reason of your choice when it comrs to these countries..I would rather care about climate. Sweden is in Scandinavia and might be interesting experience if u like cold weather.

I don’t think you should have any problems, either in Sweden or France.
How many people are vegans in US, but you still adapt to your dietary needs. I think Europe will be a lot more accommodating in regards to your vegan dietary needs.

Suppose if you weren’t going to Sweden or France but maybe China, how would you stay Vegan there. It’s exactly as it is, in US. I do know French have a very healthy diet, particularly in Southern France, and you certainly shouldn’t have any problem in Paris.

I would go with France, Sweden is cold, not even part of main land Europe. You will have a blast in France, it’s every students dream.

If it’s just the option of those two, Sweden for sure. It’s difficult to be a vegetarian in France, much less a vegan. You’ll find your work cut out for you in Sweden as well, but it’ll be a bit easier.

However, France has nicer weather, especially in winter. December days in Sweden can be really, really short :)
