Is there any way to lose a gut without running or dieting?

Matt Humberto asked:

I’ve never been a fan of running or dieting, but I have tried my hand at weight lifting and I seem to like it. Are there are any exercises known to really burn fat around your mid-section? Am I asking the obvious (answer: sit-ups)?

Thanks for your help. Answers from professionals appreciated!

sit ups will tone the ab muscles, and the more muscle in your body the faster your metabolism (thus the more calories you burn, even at rest) but if you have a layer of fat over your abs, the only way to get rid of that is to reduce calorie intake or exerise (preferably both).

To lose weight (burn fat) you must consume fewer calories than you burn. You need to burn 3500 more calories than you consume to burn 1 pound of fat…

Alas you can target tone (muscle) but not target burn fat. I wish ya could, because I’ve got saddlebags on my thighs I’d LOVE to focus on!
